The Gujarat government would be launching free treatment scheme for the road accident victims. Under the scheme, the state will bear medical expenses of up to 50,000 rupees for each victim of a road accident in the state for the first 48 hours.

The state government of Gujarat would be launching free treatment scheme for the road accident victims on May 18, 2018.

The announcement for the same was made last week by Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, who also handles Health portfolio.

• Under the scheme, the state government will bear medical expenses of up to 50,000 rupees for each victim of a road accident in the state for the first 48 hours.

• The government would reimburse the amount to the hospital concerned upon submission of bills.

• The free treatment facility will include dressing of wounds, X-ray, blood transfusion, treatment in ICU and MRI and all other treatment available in a hospital.

• In an instance where a hospital refers the patient to another hospital within 48 hours, both the hospitals will be eligible for the reimbursement of their combined bill of Rs 50,000.

• The move is aimed at providing timely and better treatment and thus, minimising the loss of life due to road accidents.

While the incidents of road accidents are increasing in the state, an important announcement was made by the Gujarat government on Wednesday. According to which if any person in the state is injured in road accidents, then Rs. 50 thousand will be given to the state government for immediate treatment in a nearby government or private hospital.

Monitoring of the scheme will be done by the state level:

The injured person will get all kinds of treatment in 48 hours and the government will give this amount directly to the hospital for the purpose of saving his life. The benefit of this scheme will be given to all the people. With the complete monitoring of the scheme from the state level, the state government allocated Rs 30 crore for the year 2018-19.

Deputy Chief Minister announced:

State Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said today that 6,483 people died in 29.39 road accidents every year in Gujarat. As such, if the patient survives the patient’s life in such accidents, then the state government will directly give the hospital the cost of Rs 50,000 for the 48-hour treatment in any government or private hospital near the injured.

What treatment is included in the scheme include:

All of which include injuries like dressing, stabilization, fracture stabilization, respiratory condition, x-ray, injury operations, CT scan, MRI, ultra sound, blood transfusion, head injuries treatment and operation, intimate treatment unit (ICU), stomach and muscle injuries. Includes the costs of kind treatment.

The person suffering from an accident will be provided in any private hospital, district-taluka hospitals, medical colleges-hospitals or any other public or private hospital. Accident patients will not have to pay any money for primary treatment. Private hospitals will not have to take any money from the patient for the first 48 hours of treatment. Khalang hospitals will have to submit a bill of treatment to the District District Officer or Doctor Superintendent of the respective district, and the private hospital will be given a sum of up to 50 thousand rupees for the bill.

Who will benefit from the scheme?

Besides covering the people of Gujarat, the scheme would cover people belonging to other states and also citizens from other countries.

According to a Government Resolution issued by the state’s Health and Family Welfare department on May 17, even people hailing from other states or citizens of other countries will get free treatment regardless of their income if they meet with a road accident and get admitted to a government or a private hospital in Gujarat.
